I like comedy, and occasionally watch a little stand up on Comedy Central, but I've never liked the sitcom format, or sitdram, or whatever. Always seemed too prepackaged to me, too pat.
As for AMC, I don't think you can put a 5-day a week soap in the same class as a sitcom or sitdram.
What set ER apart, IMO, was that it seemed not to be just another hospital show. For me, it is when they leave the hospital situations that the show loses its edge and becomes just another TV sitdram.
Use sitdram when its meaning, tone and grammar fit the full sentence. A synonym is not always a direct replacement.
